Careers in General Practice in Bristol, North Somerset & South Gloucestershire
Job Reference: VA61
Closing Date: 27 February 2022
We know that general practice is a tough place to be right now, with the national shortage of GPs, the impact of the Covid pandemic and the growing expectations set upon general practice services to deliver more and more.
Dealing with this day-in, day-out is not easy and, let’s be honest, it’s not much fun either! We know because we do it – we are an organisation run by a team of GPs that have been there and got the tshirt.
That’s why we offer something different. The chance for a break from the relentlessness and isolation of community general practice by mixing it up with the fascinating, collaborative and immensely rewarding work of prison healthcare. Whether you’re looking for a complete break from community general practice, or just something else to do alongside it, we have options that will suit you.
We are looking for GPs (experienced or newly qualified) to join one or more of our prison healthcare teams. If desired, we are able to offer this as a split role between our service and community general practice, through our partnership with Hanham Health (Dr P Taylor & Partners) - www.hanhamhealth.co.uk
FIND OUT MORE
We recognise that this is likely to be a brand new and completely unknown environment for most people, and we therefore offer the opportunity for you to visit our sites and meet with our existing GPs to find out more before applying. To arrange this, contact our recruitment team via email@example.com
Once in post, we also provide a substantial induction process to all new GPs, tailored to individual needs and preferences. During this induction, you will be fully supported and mentored by one of our experienced GP leads or GP partners.
Hanham Secure Health is an independent healthcare organisation delivering NHS commissioned primary care services to patients within secure environments. Owned and managed by a team of GPs, we help to deliver holistic healthcare services to those individuals within some of the local criminal justice system settings. We currently operate within secure settings across the Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire area.
We don’t just offer employment; we offer the chance to become a part of a team, a service, a culture and a family. By bringing together the unique and varied mixture of experiences, opportunities and challenges that secure healthcare offers, and through the continuous encouragement and support of our employees to learn and develop in their roles.
Here's what two of our current GPs say:
"For many of our patients, their only real opportunity to access healthcare is whilst they are in prison so we really do have an opportunity to make difference" - DR CL, General Practitioner for HSH
"I really enjoy the interaction with other team members that prison work gives me. Acute and planned care nursing teams, substance misuse teams, pharmacy and medicines management teams, mental health teams, administration teams… there seems to be a constant knock on my door and it is certainly less isolating than traditional General Practice can sometimes be." - DR KG, General Practitioner for HSH
Hanham Secure Health is proud to be an equal opportunities employer
We offer our GPs the opportunity to act as clinical leads in areas of particular interest to them, allocating protected time for project and research work in support of this. We have a deeply embedded culture of learning and development and our GPs play a vital role in supporting the ongoing development of our services and our clinical staff.
Employee wellbeing is of utmost importance to us and we offer an extensive wellbeing support package to all employees, including free access to mental health self-care services, meditation services, counselling services and much more.
Our ethos is: “invest in, motivate and develop your workforce and your workforce will invest in and take care of your service”. For us, it’s all about the people.
