About the practice

Kingswood Health Centre was built in 2011 and is a modern building that staff enjoy and are proud to work in.

The practice’s appointment book is very complex, taking into account over 30 types of appointments to ensure that all patients’ needs are catered for. These range from same day appointments to slots that are released 24/48/72hrs or 1 month ahead. The appointment book also enables online appointments for patients.

The surgery undertakes an on-call surgery in the afternoons, every day, that triages urgent calls, as well as catering for specific appointment needs such as workers’ slots, minor injury slots and a variety of chronic disease clinic appointments.

The Kingswood clinical team also has dermatology experts, implant and coil fitters. A number of GPs undertake minor surgery. The practice is also heavily involved with Research and is currently a member of the 4PCC Research Hub as the lead practice.

Kingswood is part of the 4PCC Cluster of practices that also includes Hanham Health, Cadbury Heath Health Centre and Close Farm Surgery.

Working environment, values and culture

The team at Kingswood strive to make the practice a quality primary care provider, putting patient care at the heart of activity and treating patients with dignity and respect at all times.

The culture is open and welcoming and all staff are very approachable.

There is an excellent team ethos and everyone has a dynamic way of pulling together to ensure work is undertaken to a high standard. Successes and failures are regularly reviewed and monitored as the team strives to deliver a positive patient experience.

The practice holds a number of meetings each month, including practice, clinical, allied professional, MDT, Significant Events and individual team meetings.

Kingswood also aims to host 2-3 social events each year, including either a Christmas or New Year party.

What we offer

All requests for flexible working are given consideration at the surgery and a number of staff work part-time.

Childcare vouchers can be requested. The surgery has policies that cover maternity, paternity, shared parental and adoption leave, and these are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Learning and development

The practice offers extensive induction plans that range from a few days to a few months to ensure that staff are fully comfortable and competent in their role. All new staff are allocated a buddy to provide help and assistance.

There are regular social events and team meetings, as well as huddles every day for the clinician team.

Any request for study leave is given careful consideration after discussion with the manager and as it relates to the role. There is an allocated allowance of study leaves that each staff member can take each day if needed.

Our patients

Kingswood has a high number of elderly patients registered at the surgery and looks after eight nursing homes in the Kingswood area.

The practice is proud to have four stars on NHS Choices, regularly seeks feedback from patients via their Patient Participation Group (PPG) and monitors their annual GP Survey results.
